PUKKA’s First Black Tie Ball

It’s A Kind of Magic – PUKKA’s Black Tie Ball 2012 from PUKKA Productions on Vimeo.

PUKKA Productions present a very rough but fairly quick trailer of their 2012 Black Tie Ball. Entitled “It’s A Kind of Magic”, it includes performances from the PUKKA Petites, PUKKA Potential, PUKKA Plus, and the debut of the latest section, PUKKA Perfection.

The performance DVD is now available from Sarah! Happy-Grin

Wow, what a fabulous night! This just has to be an annual event! The theme was Magic and it lived up to the name. The kids were brilliant, and what a talented bunch who really really seemed to enjoy themselves. The Penguin dance by PUKKA Potential from Mary Poppins was especially delightful as was the PUKKA Petites “you got a friend in me”. PUKKA Plus showed their amazing talent in both wonderful harmonies and fabulous dancing. Rachel’s rendition of ”I’m not that girl” from Wicked was really quite moving. First outing for PUKKA Perfection lived up to the hype, a little bit off the wall, with some great voices, great harmonies and some great moves.

All in all a very impressive evening that was enjoyed by all. Congratulations to Sarah, Nic, Sara, Cola and Lou, the PUKKA Team and all the PUKKA Performers.

The tables looked good too…

PUKKA Productions is an exciting drama group that formed late in 2004 from roots in Porthkerry Road Methodist Church, a place well known for its drama and music-making tradition.

Although the director, musical director and many members of the cast, production team and band are actively involved in the life of the Barry Circuit of Methodist Churches, the group has expanded and attracted a lot of really excellent local talent from other sources.

PUKKA’s debut was the acclaimed ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’, performed during Easter 2005 at Barry Memorial Hall. Since then, performances have included ‘West Side Story’, ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’, ‘One Night Only’ (an evening of song and dance from popular West End shows), and ‘Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story’. In August 2007 a new venture, ‘PUKKA Plays’ was born, with a magical production of Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ performed at the open-air amphitheatre at the Amelia Trust Farm. Just before Christmas 2007, PUKKA had a real treat with their totally original production of ‘A Christmas Carol’, an all-new version of the traditional Christmas tale. With two Christmas shows, in 2008 and 2009, and a major show in ‘Annie’ during the summer of 2009, PUKKA continued to be busy! Their first project in 2009 was their five year anniversary show, called FIVE, performed at the Paget Rooms in Penarth during March 2010, and their last major show of the year was “The Little Match Girl” at the Porthceri Arts Centre in December 2010.

PUKKA has grown from an initial idea of “branching out” from their church buildings to reach a community of all faiths and of no faith – a community which they aim to serve. With support from the church and various charities and individuals, the seed has burst into life.

PUKKA is a community company. All profit generated from our shows is donated to Barry charities and our input to the town was recognised in 2006 with a ‘Pride in Barry‘ award. We are committed and hard working, yet friendly and fun. If you would like to jump on board to provide quality entertainment, make new friends and improve our town, give Sarah a call!.

In 2005 the junior company, PUKKA Petites, was formed and regularly performs its own shows as well as featuring in the main PUKKA Productions.

PUKKA Plus Pukka Potential Theatre School

In 2008 a new section was needed to allow continuing development and nurturing of the skills learned in the Petites. PUKKA Potential Theatre School was created to meet this need, and in 2009 a more advanced section, PUKKA Plus, was created to cater for children who had progressed still further.

The dream of Pukka Productions has always been of a company working in partnership with the local community, encouraging individuals to fulfil their potential, and using our profits to support good causes. With your support we can do even more!

As a community company, PUKKA are always on the lookout for new talent – so if you want to join our talented cast, call Sarah for a chat on 07917 881220 or 01446 400674, or e-mail pukkaproductionsbarry@yahoo.co.uk
