Never one to back away from a challenge, Pukka rose to the occasion once again with Snow White, the panto! And what a wag it was.
The lovely Sophie opened the show as the fairy narrator, in a dress with a skirt big enough to get 4 plus girls under it (oh what those kids get up to in the dressing rooms)! Then in to a rip roaring ‘zipadee doo da’ and away they went.
Our Snow White (played by both Gabby and Rowan) was a typically sweet heroine in true Disney style but with an unfortunate amount of wind!!! Oh that panto humour! We had a truly magnificent Evil Queen in the shape of Jude…really booable; a very funny town tramp played by Duncan, a larger than life and amazingly loud Dame in the shape of Alun; the double act that was the woodsmen Chip & Chop (Dorothy and Glenn), Essex girls (Chloe and Hannah); our cross-dressing Prince Ponce (Rachel) and an assortment or other characters, not the least of which were our wonderful Dwarfs. Special mention must be made of Marissa Millward, who as ‘only the understudy’ delivered a blistering speech at Sarah that had the audience roaring and applauding.
There was some great dancing from Plus, some flitting about the stage by the Petites as woodland creatures (the big ones were the lovely Lou and Molly), singing from a rousing chorus of Potentials and Plus and …let’s face it, a fair bit of ad-libbing. And no panto is complete without the obligatory audience participation, so “come on down” (well, up) and win a life time supply of something….lush.
All in all, a fine time was had with enough hiccups in each performance to keep the crew entertained every time. Well done everyone. Great sets, great costumes, great music and great performances… I can’t wait for the DVD.
