March 2007
On
Tuesday 20th March 2007 PUKKA staged, for one night only, an evening
of West End Entertainment, consisting of a selection of favourites
from famous West End shows, and with Special Guest Star Peter Karrie,
Barry's very own superstar!
Performed almost as a break from the forthcoming BUDDY production,
anyone seeing the final rehearsal (which started about three hours
before the actual performance) might have wondered if PUKKA had
bitten off more than they could chew! But the audience at the
performance itself would have no doubt that PUKKA had another triumph
on their hands! The technical staff had a few hours preparation to
sort the sound and lights, and the Memorial Hall staff kept adding
rows of chairs to the auditorium as more tickets were sold.
The performance started with "Rhythm of Life" from the show
Sweet Charity, performed by the whole company, and swept through a
variety of song and dance routines, with strong vocals from both the
male and female chorus.
The delightful PUKKA Peties performed of "All I want" (with
an excellent lead from Jemima Scott), "Doh Reh Mi", and
excerpts from the Wizard of Oz and High School Musical, and it was
obvious that they had many fans in the hall.

And in spite of a "bad voice" (caused either by a cold or
too much shouting at the match!) Peter Karrie excelled with some of
his hits from "Phantom of the Opera", including the lovely
duet "All I Ask Of You" with Carmen Brookes.
The Finale was a selection of hits from the next PUKKA Production,
Buddy - The Buddy Holly Story, due to be performed at the Barry
Memorial Hall during May 2007.
